Intellectual Property Manager

Reporting to the CTO, the Intellectual Property Manager is responsible for capturing and documenting the inventions and innovations related to Primal Fusion's business methods, technology, and applications, in a timely and effective manner. These records take the form of internal articles, Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and patent applications, and other documentation. This role covers all aspects of our patent portfolio, including office actions and legal liaison. The Intellectual Property Manager understands and identifies gaps and opportunities in securing additional intellectual property for Primal Fusion by maintaining the process for surveying prior art and monitoring changes in the competitive and research landscapes.
Responsibilities
- Document invention and innovation disclosures for Primal Fusion, meeting internal and external requirements.
- Manage and maintain Primal Fusion’s patent portfolio.
- Assess the current patent strategy and portfolio, reporting on issues and communicating recommendations to senior management.
- Survey prior art and assess the competitive landscape, leveraging internal knowledge systems as a means of capturing, maintaining, and communicating this information.
- Facilitate the knowledge transfer and capture of intellectual property throughout the organization.
- Liaise with internal and external legal stakeholders, communicating and documenting all actions in a timely and effective manner with regards to invention and innovation disclosure.
- Establish continuous improvement of Primal Fusion’s intellectual property process and strategy.
- Work with senior management to create, communicate, and facilitate an Innovation Incentive Program.
Requirements
- Three to five years of experience with invention disclosure, patent applications, and Canadian and US PCT filing processes.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in preparation, filing, and management of patents and invention disclosure is required.
- A positive attitude and a results-oriented work ethic.
- An ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- An ability to self-monitor progress against project goals and employ corrective actions as required.
- University degree, college diploma, or equivalent in computer science or engineering.
- Registration as a Patent Attorney or Patent Agent before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and the United States Patent and Trademark Office is a definite asset.
